Accessibility Statement

Commitment

Live subtitles are an accessibility feature for many of the people who use them, so an inaccessible interface around them would be a contradiction. We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

The European Accessibility Act has applied to digital services in the EU since 28 June 2025. This statement describes where we actually stand, including where we fall short.

Current status: partially conformant

Partially conformant means most of the product meets the standard, with known exceptions listed below.

What works

• Subtitle size, font, colour, background opacity, line height and line count are all user-configurable — this is a core feature, not an accessibility afterthought.
• A monospace font option is available for readers who find it easier.
• Full keyboard navigation on the website and in the extension popup.
• Light and dark themes; text contrast meets AA at default settings.
• Low-confidence transcription is indicated visually so it is not mistaken for certainty.

Known limitations

• The floating subtitle window carries a system title bar that we cannot remove or restyle (a browser anti-spoofing measure).
• Usage charts in the dashboard convey information visually; the same data is available as a table and via data export.
• Screen reader announcement of rapidly updating subtitles is not yet optimised, as continuous announcements interfere with the live audio the user is following.
